Our History

Blueprint Media Group (Pty) Ltd is a Level 1 B-BBEE entity formed in 2018 to seize and exploit emerging opportunities in the media and communications industry of South Africa. Its major shareholders are: Blueprint Group (Pty) Ltd, NEHAWU Investment Holdings (Pty) Ltd, and the URK Holdings Ltd. The shareholders represent key communities in the country: traditional leaders, professional workers, and black-owned businesses. BMG is poised to become a significant player in its niche markets both in South Africa and the African continent at large.

Groovin is the Executive Chairman of Blueprint Media Group (Pty) Ltd which owns News Afrika, Blueprint Group (Pty) Ltd, Blueprint Strategic Marketing and Communications (Pty) Ltd, and the Medi-Zone Group (Pty) Ltd. He is also the inaugural Chief Executive Officer of United Royal Kingships Holdings (Pty) Ltd- a company formed by the traditional and royal leaders to invest in key sectors of the economy for the benefit of nearly 25 million citizens who have been historically disadvantaged. Groovin is an award winning and dynamic Advertising and Media guru in South Africa. He is former Chief Executive Officer of Leo Burnett Group South Africa/ MMS Group,  a division of Publicis Worldwide, the third largest communications group in the world with 65 000 employees in more than 83 countries. Respected across the industry and in business for building brands, he is set to become a major player in the communications industry of South Africa.

Phil is the Chief Executive Officer of Blueprint Media Group (Pty) Ltd and Managing Editor of News Afrika. He is currently the Executive Chairman of the Africa Media Institute and Media Knowledge (Pty) Ltd - providing training and media expertise to a network of Public Broadcasters and media houses across the continent of Africa. Phil is a veteran journalist and Media Executive with a wealth of experience – spanning more than 30 years – in both the print and electronic media. He has spent the greater part of his professional career in Public Service Broadcasting, covering all corners of the trade – news reporting, producing documentaries, studio production, and anchor. Phil has served in Senior Management and Executive positions in the corporate world for more than 20 years. He was Group Executive: News and Current Affairs of the SABC. He also served at the helm of the Corporation as Acting Group CEO in 2011 – 2012.

Merriam is Executive Director of Blueprint Media Group (Pty) Ltd. She also sits on the board of United Royal Kingships Holdings Ltd and the Medi-Zone Group (Pty) Ltd. started out her financial career in the professional services sector with Ernst & Young (now EY) where she rose through the ranks to the position of senior manager with key responsibilities for large listed and private corporations. She then joined international energy group, BP Southern Africa, where she served as Assurance, Risk and Controls Manager with specific responsibilities for financial management and business controls, risk management, ethics and compliance and governance and reporting. Meriam is currently Chief Financial Officer of Medizone Group (Pty) which will soon be launching a chain of retail pharmacies across the country.

Ikosi Etwell Sipho Mahlangu is Non-executive Director of the Blueprint Media Group (Pty) Ltd. He is Chairman of the National House of Traditional Leaders and is Non-Executive Chairman of the United Royal Kingship Holdings (Pty) Ltd. A royal leader, innovator and guardian of culture, he has dedicated his life to serving his people. Elected to be Deputy Chairperson of the National House of Traditional Leaders in 2014, he has been interacting with various arms of government on matters to do with the advancement of traditional governance and economic development in the country. He is an entrepreneur and businessman who also sits on several boards of companies.

Makgane is Non-Executive Director of Blueprint Media (Pty) Ltd. He is currently the CEO of the NEHAWU Investment Holdings, a R2.4 billion investment vehicle which leverages worker equity towards market related investments in the following sectors: Resources (Exxaro and ARM), Renewables (Boschoff Solar Park), Health Care (Workers Health), Property, Telecommunications, Financial Services and Gaming. He was previously Executive Chairperson of the same entity. A Labour Relations & HR specialist and Turnaround expert with extensive project management experience in managing large-scale restructuring processes, Makgane is studying towards a Masters in Public Management with the University of the Witwatersrand.

Connie is a Non-Executive Director of the Blueprint Media Group (Pty) Ltd. She is also an Executive Director of the Medi-Zone Group (Pty) Ltd. An award winning South African actress who has been in the game for 28 years, Connie’s passion for creating and story telling saw her join forces with her husband Shona Ferguson, to create what has become one of the most reputable Television Production Companies in the country Ferguson Films in 2010. They have produced two movies, Step Up To A Start Up and The Gift, four seasons of the hit drama series Rockville, two seasons of Igazi, The Imposter, Unmarried, and are into the third season of their hit Telenovela The Queen.

Mmoko is a Non-Executive Director of the Blueprint Media (Pty) Ltd and has over 10 years’ experience, 5 of which were in management roles within the Retail, Banking and Insurance industries. She has diversified experience in accounting and finance, with an apt understanding of   International Reporting Financial Standards (IFRS) and a sound knowledge of Public Finance Management Act (PFMA). She is a strategic thinker and a professional Project Manager (PMI and Agile). She also holds and Advanced Diploma in Business Accounting (ACCA) and is studying towards the BSc in Applied Accounting (ACCA.).

Andile Milton is Non-Executive Director of Blueprint Media Group (Pty) Ltd and is currently Chief Executive Officer of the Gauteng Film Commission since 2014. He is a community leader and a youth activist who has a strong passion for youth development, entrepreneurship and innovation. He has served, and continues to serves in various executive and advisory capacities in a number of statutory bodies and NGO’s. He has served for two terms as an active member of the South African Broadcast Corporation (SABC) board who is passionate about youth affairs, affectionately known as “The Young Lion”.  He has recently been invited by the Minister of Communications to serve in the National Task Team to assist in content generation and broadcasting matters. He has completed several short courses and obtained awards over the years. He holds the following qualifications: Masters in Business Administration -MBA (De Montfort, Leicester, UK); Master’s in Education – MSc Ed (St Cloud, Minnesota, USA); B. Ed (Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University former UPE); Diploma in Education (Algoa College), post graduate Certificate in Telecoms Policy, Regulation & Management through Wits University. A Leadership Certificate in African Studies through the Thabo Mbeki African Leadership Institute (TMALI) in partnership with UNISA. Currently studying towards Masters in ICT Policy & Regulations through Wits University
